MOSS está disponible en tres ediciones:

• Standard, incluye Colaboración, Portal, Búsqueda y Administración de Contenido.
• Enterprise, complementa la oferta de Standard agregando Formas e Inteligencia de Negocio.
• Internet Sites, idéntica a la Enterprise pero licenciada de acuerdo al alojamiento de aplicaciones instaladas en Internet.

Se suele asociar el término software con los programas de computadora, en una definición más amplia software no sólo son programas, sino todos los archivos, documentos asociados y la configuración de datos necesaria para hacer que estos programas operen de manera correcta.

Un sistema de software está integrado por diversos programas independientes, archivos de configuración que se utilizan para ejecutar estos programas, documentación que describe la estructura y funcionamiento del sistema e incluso accesos a sitios web que permitan al usuario descargar actualizaciones e información de productos recientes.

En resumen, el término software se refiere al equipamiento o soporte lógico de una computadora, y comprende un conjunto de componentes lógicos necesarios para hacer posible la realización de una tarea específica.

Clasificación del Software de acuerdo a su propósito:

• Software de Sistema. Su objetivo es aislar tanto al usuario como al programador de los detalles de procesamiento entre dispositivos y características internas del equipo de cómputo utilizado. Y proveer de interfaces sofisticadas, herramientas y utilidades para interactuar con el equipo de cómputo.
• Software de Programación. Es aquel que provee de un conjunto de herramientas que le permiten al programador desarrollar programas informáticos utilizando diferentes entornos de desarrollo integrados y lenguajes de programación.
• Software de Aplicación. Le Permite al usuario llevar a cabo una o varias tareas específicas, en cualquier campo de actividad susceptible a ser automatizado o asistido.

Gantt invented techniques such as milestone deliverables, task duration, and estimates. Although enhaced with modern techniques such as dependencies, much of the content and format of Gantt charts has remained unchanged for 100 years. This is a remarkable feat of techology endurance, particulary in an age that justifies changes in terms of minutes.

Herny Gantt began project management by asking som fundamentals questions, then expressing them in a graphical format.

• How long will the project take?
• What are the critical tasks that must be completed?
• How long will each task take?
• When must each task start and end?
• Who will be responsible for each task’
• What resources will be requiered to complete each task?
• How will delayed tasks affect the proyect?
• What is the impact of a modification to the project scope?
• What is the total cost of the project?
• What is the cost of each task?
• Is the project on schedule?
• How can slippage problems be corrected?
• What is the project’s cost at any point in time?
• Is there a way to speed up the project?

Currently, these questions continue be fundamental.

• Define and review the business case and requirements by regular reviews and controls to ensure that the client receives the system that he or she wants and needs.
• Initiate and plan the project by establishing its format, directions, and base lines that allow for any variance measurements and change control.
• Partner with the end users, work with project sponsors and other management to establish progress and direction of the project by achieving goals, reaching targets, solving problems, mitigating risks.
• Manage the technology, people, and change in order to achieve goals, reach targets, and deliver the project on time and within budget.
• Manage the projects staff by creating an environment conducive to the delivery of the new applications in the most cost-effective manner.
• Be able to manage uncertainty, rapid change, ambiguity, surprises, and a less defined environment.
• Manage the cliente relationship by using an adequate direct yet complete and formal reporting format that compliments a respected and productive relationship.
• Drive the project by leading by example, and motivating all concerned until the project accomplishes its goal.

But to meet this requirements some skills and qualities are necesary, I will write about them later.

Projects are often implemented as a means of achieving an organization’s strategic plan. Operations and projects differ primarily in that operations are ongoing and repetitive while projects are temporary and unique. A project can thus be defined in terms of its distinctive characteristics  a project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service. Temporary means that every project has a definite beginnign and a definite end. Unique means that the product or service is different in som distinguishing way from all other products or services. For many organizations, projects are a means to respond to those requests that cannot be addressed within the organization’s normal operational limits.

Projects are undertaken at all levels of the organization. They may involve a single person or many thousand. Their duration ranges from a few weeks to more than five years. Projects may involve a single unit of one organization or may cross to the realization of the performing organization’s business strategy because projects are a means by which strategy is implemented. Examples of projects include:

• Developing a new product or service.
• Effecting a change in structure, staffing, or style of an organization.
• Designing a new transportation vehicle.
• Developing or acquiring a new or modified information system.
• Constructing a building or facility.
• Building a water system for a community in a developing country.
• Running a campaign for political office.
• Implementing a new business procedures or process.

A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge

SharePoint es una plataforma basada en Web conformada por herramientas y tecnologías. Lo que permite crear aplicaciones de negocio que nos ayuden a almacenar, compartir y administrar información.

Se compone de dos partes: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 y Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. El primero se encuentra incluido a partir del sistema operativo Windows Server 2003 o puede ser descargado directamente del sitio de Microsoft. Contiene el core de la administración de contenido y las características de la plataforma de colaboración. El segundo es la última versión del producto (puesto que la 2010 continua siendo BETA) y el nexo con el sistema Microsoft Office.
